I've been missing my dad a lot recently. It feels like my emotions twist and swirl and I cry tears of both happiness and heartache. Spending so much time on the road these past few weeks, I found myself not recognizing any new songs on the radio and would instead gravitate to the "old" stations. I can't tell you how many times I heard my dad singing along with me to Springsteen, Fogerty, or Fagen in his 'way too excited for someone that has heard this song one million times' voice (also imagine the fists keeping to the beat). There continue to be a lot of firsts that are a horse pill to swallow, and if we're being honest, I'm ready for that sneaky feeling to stop showing up. We just booked a trip to Florida for the beginning of January, which will be a year since my dad passed. I know that one year we will have to be home for that day, but we're not ready for it this year....and that's okay.
I've come tonight, I've come to know the way we are, the way we'll go, and to measure this width of the wide abyss
I come to you in restless sleep, where all your dreams turn bittersweet, with voodoo doll philosophies, day glow holy trinities
The crooked raft that leaves the shore ferries drunken souls aboard, Pilgrims march to Compostela, visions of their saint in yellow,
Follow deep in trance, lost in a catatonic dance, know no future damn the past, blind, warm, ecstatic, safe at last
-Natalie Merchant, Thick as Thieves
