Round Up

Life is busy! Here are some highlights and reads as of late....

This article. Seriously. "We’re in a state of negative evolution. We’ve made being exhausted a status symbol of ambition and being rested synonymous with laziness. And that’s because of our current definition of success. When we call someone successful, we mean he’s made a lot of money or has achieved recognition, not that he lives a balanced, happy life, or that he’s a passionate, joyful person. The result: as a culture, we’re the sickest we’ve ever been with rates of heart disease, stroke, diabetes and addiction at all time highs. We need to redefine success to include security, passion connection, purpose, and maybe wealth....An out-of-balance child is missing the basics of sleep, a good diet and authentic interaction. They’re often sleep deprived and eat their meals in the car between sports practice and music lessons. They do extra work before school and head straight to extra curricular commitments and tutoring directly after dismissal. At night they’re rushed to fall asleep. Sure, they might be excelling at activities and academics, and might even have significant social status at school, but they’re often lacking meaningful social connections, and they definitely don’t have enough time to play. In fact, they’ve likely even forgotten how to and are anxious when they are bored or have free time."

Hunter Rain Boots. I'd been eyeing these for a long time and my aunt Marylea very generously got them for me recently. No more days of tip-toeing around puddles in flats! It takes a little restraint to not actually jump in puddles now that I have appropriate rain boots. (note: for some reason the tall boots have never worked on my calves and were always just tight enough that I wouldn't be able to wear them with jeans, but the shorter version has much more room)

Maeve dresses. I've been a lover of the Maeve brand at Anthropologie for some time now and I recently scored two awesome dresses (one was on sale from nearly $200 to......$23!!!!! biggest.steal.ever.).  I'm hitting that phase of pregnancy where my normal clothes aren't going to last much longer, so it's nice to have some flowy and adorable dresses on hand to turn to.

Faces of Survival in Liberia  This is a really touching series and a good reminder that stigmas continue to be a dangerous and detrimental thing.

Banana Pudding. This is a shortcut version of banana pudding that I haven't made yet, but will be this week. I mean.....seriously. (Update: ...made it. let the diabetes take over. worth it.)

ALL of How Sweet Eats, but especially this recipe. I'm so glad that I discovered this food blog heaven recently (she also has a newly released cookbook out now!). This butternut, bacon, and leek pasta is high on my 'must make' list right now. I'm thinking some toasted pine nuts would make an awesome addition, too!

Sweater Care via Cupcakes and Cashmere. Some good tips here! I'm definitely guilty of wringing my sweaters out after I hand wash them....

Fabletics If you're in the hunt for new workout gear, click over to Fabletics. I have to say, I was totally skeptical of the whole thing before I signed up and the first shipment arrived, but it's awesome! The quality is as good, if not better, than Lululemon for a fraction of the price.

Knowing that we will be sitting on the beach at this spot in two and a half months. Enough said.

  1. Love when you post links! Will be counting down the days until your trip in December, and then when I get to see you shortly after that, and then again for your trip to the don. Xoxo.
