If you've been reading this blog for a bit, you know that I've been following the Maslin's story closely. Today, the young man convicted of TC's brutal beating was sentenced. If you're interested, here is the article, which includes a video of Abby's courageous victim impact statement. While I hope that the sentencing serves as some sort of closure for them, I'll continue to to think of them often, as they still have a long road ahead of them. If their progress thus far is any indication, though, they will find a way to return to some sense of normalcy in their lives through their unwavering love for one another.
I was having a conversation with an acquaintance today and we got to talking about the 'big' questions. Namely, what our purpose is and what we want to accomplish in this invaluable time that can be stripped from us at any given moment in time. While that's a scary thought at times, it can also serve as a great motivator. Of course, we're often forced to wheel and deal with the cards that life throws at us, but we're also in control of our actions for a vast majority of our lives (if we're lucky). I'm not proposing that we all quit our jobs, move to Southern California, and live the life that we've always daydreamed about, but it did serve as a moment of pause and reflection for me since there are smaller scale goals and dreams that I think we're all aiming to accomplish. Time to make a move.
Finally, I really think that I might be ahead of the ball on this one (for once....). Calling this song as a hit. You can thank me later!
Have a wonderful and safe 4th of July! Remember, freedom isn't free.
