Receiving wedding gifts prior to our wedding is like Christmas morning on repeat. It's so exciting to get new kitchenware or appliances, and we're forever grateful to our family and friends for being so generous! My mom gifted us a Blendtec for my bridal shower, and it has changed my life (yes, really!). Just a few weeks ago, I'd been debating smoothies and even given them a go a few times, but I never felt like they were up to par. They were tedious to make, the end result was chunky, and I'd had enough. Enter the Blendtec.
This is the machine that you may have seen on T.V. blending up the IPhone or other types of hardware and electronics. Yes, it's that strong. Things that I adore about the Blendtec: It's big, but not huge. It's a digital touchscreen with icons for different blending options (for example, smoothie, soup, ice, etc.). It's really powerful. It's easy to clean and store.
So far, here are some favorite smoothie recipes....
-base liquid: almond milk
-protein options: hemp protein powder, Click espresso protein powder, greek yogurt
-add-ins: frozen banana, almond butter, mango, blueberries, strawberries.....the options are endless
One of my favorites is almond milk + frozen banana + almond butter + chocolate protein powder - yum.com
I will say that power = noise. Depending on what setting you're using, the Blendtec does get pretty loud as it whips up yummy creations. I'm looking forward to expanding my blending skills beyond smoothies soon. I'm sure we'll be making lots of scrumptious soups come this fall.
Oh, and another yummy treat I threw together in there? Cashew Cream! It's a non-dairy, sweet cream that is divine when mixed with any fruit (it's somewhat similar to whipped cream). Directions: soak raw cashews in Blendtec with water that covers them for 3-8 hours. Strain cashews, put them back in Blendtec with 1/4-1/2 cup of water. Blend away until the cashews become a light colored cream. Add in dates, stevia, or any other type of sweetener and blend again. You could take the flavor profile in so many different directions, including nixing the sweetener and taking the sauce in an alfredo direction by adding nutritional yeast and other spices.
Yes, the Blendtec/Vitamix type blenders come with a hefty price tag. If you are concocting new creations in the kitchen often, though, it's well worth it and pays for itself in the incredible dishes that you can come up with!
PS. Random, but has anyone else noticed that Back to School supplies are on the shelves already!? The blasphemy! I close my eyes and sprint past those areas of the store when I see them.
