Have you heard of StoryCorps? It's a nonprofit that is dedicated to recording the stories of Americans from various walks of life. I'd heard about it on NPR and then arlnow.com had an article on it yesterday. The mobile recording booth is currently in Arlington through October 20th. The idea is that either you interview someone or have someone interview you in order to record, share, and preserve the stories of our lives. I've never been a journal or diary person, but this sounds like it would be such a neat way to preserve and pass along life stories or recollections of specific events.
Anybody who wants to record their story can make a reservation online or by calling 1-800-850-4406. The first reservation available as of Monday afternoon was 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday. Each recording session is 40 minutes long and each interviewee is given a broadcast-quality CD of the recording at its conclusion. (info via arlnow.com)
While I don't actually plan on doing an interview, it's interesting to think about what I would include in my story. It's also neat to brainstorm who you know that would make for a really great interview, too.
