Run the World (Girls)

There were two articles in the Washington Post today highlighting the accomplishments of females at this summer's Olympics.  Sally Jenkins wrote, "If women were a country, they would lead the medal chart".  Other inspiring takeaways...

"Women outmedaled men for the United States, China, and Russia....The leading medal winners for the three traditional Olympic powerhouses were women -- despite the fact that there were 30 fewer medals available to be won."

"The International Olympic Committee's goal is 50-50 participation eventually.  But an even more important benchmark would be to make the medal opportunities equal. Because that means that someday, as 17-year-old Claressa Shields said, 'They will be 30 of us in each event, and they will treat us fair.' "

"The many times females stars stole the spotlight surely helped enhance the perception that strong and feminine don't conflict."

"It doesn't matter how you look when you win a gold medal, because you just won a gold medal...I'm hoping we have a million little girls who are inspired right now." (Kayla Harrison, who won the first ever medal for the U.S. in judo)
