Naturally, we've got a list of about twenty things we want to tackle in the house and twice as many boxes that need to be unpacked. We still managed to find time this weekend, though, to entertain family and friends and just relax in the space that's officially home. Each time I start to let my mind wander to one of those projects that will be looming over our heads for....well, forever (joys of being a homeowner), I quickly remind myself of one of the awesome aspects of living here. While washing the dishes, for instance, we're staring out onto the patio with a big grassy knoll beyond that instead of a monotone wall. We have an attic, which I secretly love even thought it's hot and unfinished. Our neighbors are super nice and each went out of their way to come meet us while we were moving in. The projects will come with time, but our home is here to stay and our mortgage won't be increasing each year, wooo!
Since we knew we'd be having lots of family and friends over this weekend, I got up super early in the morning to test out our oven and get some baking in. Both cakes were whole milk yogurt based, which made it easy since I could only find a mondo tub of the yogurt anyhow.
(Fiat Lux!! We have natural light!!!)
Above is a lemon blueberry yogurt cake, which I found on Smitten Kitchen. The other cake was a chocolate yogurt cake that Joanna from Cup of Jo had linked to on Friday.
Here's the link . While vastly different, each found it's way into our tummies all. day. long. I'm not going to lie, the chocolate cake was a bit easier to go after with a spoon and took the gold.
CP tackled biking to the Pentagon this week, god love him. It was so hot every morning when I left at 7, and yet he was happy as a clam. I think he just likes showing off his fancy road bike. Luckily I think it's supposed to cool off this week. We're off to Wolftrap tomorrow night for an old people concert and I'm beyond excited. More on that later in the week! I hope that everyone had a fun and relaxing weekend. Can't believe summer is almost OVER!
