My love affair with the treadmill is officially back in action. As I mentioned in early July, I'd had it with running and needed a break. I did take the break from the mill and did a lot of circuit training instead. Justin left me with some bang-a-rangin' workouts that get my heart rate through the roof. Starting two weeks ago, though, I started to ease back into running. It took a bit of time before I could get to an hour/seven miles without calling it quits mentally, but goodness did it feel good once I got back to that point. I'm still running the Army 10 miler in October, and I'd love to run a 8:15-8:30 pace. Time to build some speed! As much as I loathe interval training, I know it's what I need to focus on at least once a week to get faster over the next 8 weeks. It feels really good to be craving a solid run again and I'm excited to see how fast I can kick in a couple of months!
On another running note, there have been some pretty scary incidents involving women being attacked while running this summer. The most recent attack happened on the Crescent trail in Georgetown this past week, which is where I've logged tons and tons of miles with DCRoadRunners. The other attack happened in Arlington on Four Mile Run....at 7:30 pm. There were times when I would head out for a 5:30am run earlier this summer on my own, and honestly, I'm too scared now. Some of the Mt. Vernon Trail is out in the open, but other parts are wooded and not easily visible from the road. No solo run is worth your safety. While it's easy to think "It won't be me", that's not enough. Go for a run with a friend. Hit up the treadmill or elliptical. Do notttt run on your own early in the morning or late at night, though!
