I hope that everyone had an enjoyable and relaxing three-day weekend! Ours was filled with tons o' sleep, good eats, and even better company. Even though we fit a lot in this weekend, nothing felt rushed, which is a very welcome change of pace. Here are some snapshots from our adventures....
On Friday, CP and I went over to my parents house to enjoy some lobster tails that were on sale at Whole Foods. My dad was there at 9am sharp to make sure that we would be all set before they sold out. CP's family has a house in Cape Cod that we visit over the summer and lobster is a staple throughout that week, so this was a fun way to prep for our trip in July!
On Saturday, we walked over to the new Good Stuff Eatery that recently opened on Crystal Drive. For those of you who don't know, Good Stuff was opened on Capitol Hill a few years ago by Spike Mendelsohn, who was on Season 4 of Top Chef. He's since opened We the Pizza on the Hill as well, and we're thrilled that he's brought Good Stuff to our 'hood! Yes, Crystal City is accurately described by some as a "concrete jungle", but at least that means we have good food spots that fill up all of those office buildings! Anyways, back to the grub. We feasted on scrumptious, greasy burgers and their infamous toasted marshmallow milkshake. You need to taste it to believe it.
Another advantage of living in CC? Hotels. Hotels=conventions. Lots of them. Lots of road closures, too, especially when it's that time of the year when ROLLING THUNDER vroooooooommmmmssss through the neighborhood. It's actually pretty neat. Here's a shot from our building's roof as they were prepping at the Pentagon parking lot before they rode into DC. Mind you, this is probably a tenth of the whole group that was over there.
On Monday morning, CP and I went over to Iwo Jima and Arlington Cemetery. I haven't been to the cemetery since I was little, and CP had never been so it seemed like a fitting day to go over there and honor those who have sacrificed their lives for our safety and freedom. It was pretty moving experience and the whole time I kept trying to imagine a person standing at each of those tombstones. Humbling would be an understatement.
There's a LOT going on this week in and out of school, so I'll keep you updated! CP and I also went to Artomatic this weekend, so look for a post on that later today!
