Artomatic

As we were heading home from Good Stuff on Saturday night, CP and I decided to stop at Artomatic, which is located right down the street from us this year. The event is dubbed 'DC's biggest creative event'. Essentially, every one to three years the organization finds a space where they can hold a large scale, month-long creative exhibition. In this case, a building in our neighborhood is up for demolition, which made it the perfect space to take over. It's literally an office building that's been cleared out for over 1,000 artists to display and sell their artwork in.  The art ranged from fascinating to inspiring to weird.  It reminded me a lot of MoMA in NYC, where even though some of the work is so far out in left field, you still have respect for the brainpower behind it. One of my favorite parts of the building was where they were displaying entries from the Washington Post Peeps contest.  Here are some that caught my eye....

Tour de Peeps

This was not part of the Peeps exhibit. It it was one of those "Huh?" exhibits. Perhaps I'm just not artsy enough to appreciate it for what it is and what it symbolizes....

If you're in the DC area, I would definitely recommend heading over to Artomatic for a fun afternoon or evening. Busboys and Poets has some bars set up there and it's a neat way to explore local art. Here's the website if you want more information.

It's running until June 23rd, and it's free!
