Ahhh first post jitters! I think this blog has been a long time coming, but I've finally found the time to sit down and get the ball rolling. I envision this blog as a space for me to reflect on the goings-on in my life, as well as place where I can share new and exciting finds.
First things first, though: the blog title. "Be Nice. Work Hard." is a motto that my dad has instilled in me from day one. No matter what challenges and hardships you're facing in life, these two actions will get you through the worst of the worst days. Seems simple enough, right? Wrong. I'm finding that as I grow older and more mature (because that is what we're all told happens, this thing called maturity....), it's increasingly difficult to be nice and work hard. I do think that I'm maturing and growing in so many different aspects of my life, but that also means that there are more high stakes decisions and certainly more interactions that make being nice and working hard more of a day to day struggle. It's easy to get down on yourself and others. It's more convenient to lay the blame elsewhere and point fingers. Who ever said life is easy and convenient, though? My goal (and I imagine the same goal could apply to so many others) is to continue looking for the opportunities to work hard and be nice, and capitalize on them.
Enough with the emo nonsense....
I imagine most of you reading will know me to an extent, but nonetheless, here's my basic rap sheet:
-I teach 6th grade, which means from September to June I am surrounded by smelly and hormonal twelve years olds. I love it (and yes, I really do mean that).
-Keeping healthy and fit have become a main priority in my life. I've always been pretty athletic and have learned that a healthy body equals a healthy mind. I never thought the day would come, but I've jumped on the running bandwagon and will be completing my third marathon in October.
-I'm engaged to a techie web designer who I love to the moon and back, and so look forward to spending the rest of my life with. We're sort of obsessed with food and the foodzie culture. Hence the running obsession.....
SO things you can look forward to hearing about on this blog: funny school stories, running/fitness, wedding planning, food, travel, and a whoooole bunch of other random nonsense.
If ya don't like it, don't read it! If you do like it, though, buckle your seat belts for the randomness that is my life!
I looove it! And such an important reminder for all of us: be nice & work hard.
