In the past week I've seen three movies at the theatre, which is more than I typically see in a whole year! I think the reason that I've been much more interested in going to them is because there are some newer venues that we enjoy going to, like the Angelika Film Center and the AMC at Courthouse, which was renovated and has large leather reclining seats now. Here's a quick recap/review of the movies....
American Hustle- Definitely one of those movies that you go into with high expectations because it has been hyped up so much. I felt so-so about it, but CP loved it. The acting was explosive and totally left me in awe at times, but I think the plot was a bit too fast paced for me to keep up with.
August: Osage County- By far my favorite of the three. Again, the acting was phenomenal. Meryl Streep was out of this world and delivered an incredible performance. Although this one hit close to home (the movie revolves around the death of a father), the total dysfunction of the family left me feeling somewhat normal. The movie had a way of getting you to shift from laughter to total shock and distress within seconds over and over again. I think the reason I loved this one so much is because it was raw and real - it touched on some of those common family dynamics that most people like to sweep under the rug, and confirmed that whether you choose to embrace it or not, we all family stuff.
Lone Survivor- Holy bajoly, I was so not ready for this one. Thank goodness I had another female friend there to confirm that I was not the only one sweating and crying for a better part of this movie. It was SO intense and my heart rate was through the roof. I think the hardest part for me was that in most movies I can calm myself down by reminding myself that it's just a movie and not real, but since this was based on a true story, I was on edge and my heart was breaking the whole time. The film will most definitely take your appreciation for the men and women that serve our country to a whole new level.
Are there any others that you all recommend checking out in theatres?! I cannot wait for Winter's Tale - it just so happens to be my dad's favorite book of all time!
