I can't stop thinking about this post that I wrote just one day before my dad left us. Specifically, this part: "The fact of the matter is, no matter how many pounds you lose, promotions you receive, degrees you earn, mountains you move, at the end of the day most of us will only be remembered for how we made people feel. And that's tough for a lot of us to wrap our heads around, but it's the truth. So as you embark on yet another 365 days of this precious thing known as life, do it with intention and compassion."
As we celebrated the life of my dad yesterday, it quickly became evident that John made so many people feel loved. Of course, I know him as my dad - we loved hard, we fought hard, we were always there for one another. However, to hear about all of the love that he bestowed upon others was beyond eye-opening. Those memories of how he made us feel are what are carrying us through this loss and will continue to for years to come.
The blog will be back to its regularly schedule randomness this week, but I encourage you to evaluate and reflect on how you love those around you. As we learned this week, we're all mortal and will depart eventually. Those memories that we make with others, though? Those will last forever.
