We Will Never Forget

My family is obsessed with printed photos. My mom always had a camera with her while I was growing up, and I so appreciate the fact that she took the time to print almost all of them. They are some of my most treasured possessions. There is just something about looking at a photo and remembering the exact moment in time and the emotion that you were experiencing then.

As part of a wedding gift, my mom gave me thumb drive with hundreds of old photos that she scanned. It's something that I will cherish forever (especially the photos of my parents when they were young). My mom also included photos of NYC when she visited soon after 9/11. The photos are heartbreaking- the thought of the families that were hanging the missing posters of their loved ones or the servicemen who had to dig through the rubble strewn with the deceased is painful. I know it might seem a bit odd that they were included, but it's a much needed reminder that freedom is never free.

(this photo is from 2012, where the memorial in the nearby church will always remain)

“Time is passing. Yet, for the United States of America, there will be no forgetting September the 11th. We will remember every rescuer who died in honor. We will remember every family that lives in grief. We will remember the fire and ash, the last phone calls, the funerals of the children.” -President George W. Bush
