Cville=Me-ville

For those of you that don't know, I'm a little obsessed with Charlottesville, Virginia. I realize that I'm biased since I spent my college years down there, but it truly is an incredible town. I love that the university and city are so interwoven. Whether you are a student or a 'townie', you can always find entertainment on either side.  The BEST part about Charlottesville, though, is the food. It is truly a foodie's dream down there, and it's only getting better. I love it because the town is small enough that you never have to travel far for an incredible meal. And, you never get sick of anything because there are so many diverse options.

Of course, I mention diversity, and yet I found myself plopping my bum down at Citizen Burger Bar on both nights I was in town. I'd heard good things through the grapevine, and when the craving for a burger struck, I knew where I needed to b-line it to.  I'm serious - they have the best burgers that I've ever had in my life! The closest runner-up is Shake Shack, although the patties are much thicker and the ingredients are much more fresh at CBB.  Not to mention, their sweet potato fries were unreeeeeal. Give me a second here, I have to wipe the drool off of my keyboard.....

In all seriousness, though, CP and I generally have a conversation once a month along the lines of...
M: Sooooo, when are we moving to Charlottesville!? (said with giant smile or puppydog face)
CP: Uhhhhhhh
M: No, really!
CP: I meannnnn
M: UGH (storms off)
*I have, however, at least gotten CP to promise that we can retire there....at the very very very least.

I feel like there are very few cities that I would be okay heading to for a vacation on my own, but per usual, Cville did not disappoint. The students weren't back yet, much to my surprise, so it was eerily quiet walking around grounds.  The plus side was that there was no line at Take It Away :)  I stayed at the Leathers-Snyder B&B, which was super charming and very reasonably priced. It was also right off of the downtown mall, which meant I could pop into the Mudhouse as many times a day as my little heart desired for their lattes.

I could seriously go on and on about the allure of Charlottesville, but I would end up in a terrible mood since we don't actually live there (yet!).  For now, I'll find solace in the fact that it's only a two hour jaunt down 29. Actually, that's probably not a bad thing for my waistline!

  1. How can anyone discuss Charlottesville's culinary attractions without mentioning the White Spot and The Virginian?

    1. Funny you should mention the White Spot. My daughter spent four years in Charlottesville. For the entire time, I begged her to take me for a Gus Burger and donut at the White Spot, but she refused. I've had emotional problems since that time.
