Hopefully you read my previous post and have jumped all over DC Restaurant Week! This weekend was busy at times, but in a good way....
Friday night, we went over to Chasin' Tails, a new seafood place near East Falls Church. It was ehhhh, service was ehhhh and we agreed that while it was a good concept, it needed some improvements. I did randomly see two other teachers from school there, though, and it was fun to catch up with them.
I couldn't get out of bed Saturday morning, so the early morning run was a no-go. I did make it over to the Falls Church farmer's market with my dad, though, and mannnn am I glad we went! Given that Falls Church City isn't that big, I wasn't expecting much. However, much to my delight, the market was HUGE! It rivaled, if not beat out the Dupont farmer's market. We're talking fruits and veggies, cheeses, empanadas, crepes, ice cream, pickles, flowers, and much much more. The vendors were endless, and you best bet that we'll be back.
I walked away with: three heirloom tomatoes, white nectarines, a cantaloupe, three pints of soup (gazpacho, corn and leek, summer squash), yellow shiro plums (which are mini, mild, and mmm mmm good!), and last but not least, a bag of Double Chocolate Sea Salt cookies from Pancha Dulce bakery. I grabbed them on a whim since I'm obsessed with sweet/salty and, I'm not kidding, these things are U.N.R.E.A.L.. Even CP, who isn't a big chocolate fan (?!!?) scarfed down two and agreed that they were some of the best cookies we've ever had. As a yelp reviewer accurately describes, "...their Double Chocolate Sea Salt Cookies emphatically fall within the realm of
life-changing". While they had an assortment of other cookies, I don't know that I could ever walk away without the chocolate sea salt ones. Looks like I'll been keeping yet another baking company in business!
After the market, I ran some errands with my padre and we made our way over to the German Market, where we picked up some sammies, potato salad, and schnitzel. We had a scrumptious lunch, during which I ate so much that I felt sick later on. After a quick cat nap, it was time to hit the treadmill to get in a run. Not going to lie, it was mentally agonizing, but I was at 8.5 miles on my way to 10 when the lights were turned off. Turns out the gym closes earlier than I thought on Saturdays. Boo!
Sunday was spent lounging, getting a facial, having dinner with the Pikes, and gearing up for a busy week! I might not have gotten ice cream in this weekend, but I'll settle for the other yummy goods that I consumed.....
Love the photo of Chris! Those cookies sound yummy... And glad to hear you had fun at the farmer's market with your dad!
ReplyDeleteAs you know- I'm always up for the FC Farmer's Market! My family has been in town since Thursday, and they never miss a trip to that market when they are here. Want to go next weekend?
